Human Resources for Non-HR Managers
(Business & Industry Course (B&I Public))

You're the controller, the office manager, the plant manager or the executive assistant to the president for a small company. Are you also the Human Resources Department? If so, then this program will help you gain general knowledge of human resource policies, laws and practices. It will also help you to identify situations which may put your company at risk and provide you with a working knowledge of the basics of human resources management - knowledge that can be applied to almost every aspect of your position.

  • Overview of employment laws, policies and practices
  • Critical, need to know legal information regarding hiring, discipline and discharge
  • Benefits basics, including workers' comp, FMLA, COBRA and exempt vs. non-exempt status
  • Personnel recordkeeping requirements
  • Recruitment and selection, including list of acceptable questions
  • Practical application to reinforce legal and illegal interview questions
  • Employment Handbook checklist

Who should attend: This program will benefit any manager or supervisor who has the responsibility for their company's human resources function. It is also appropriate for HR professionals whose experience has been in a single functional area or for managers who want an introduction to human resources.
