FDL: Be The Match Informational Table
(Student Event in Fond du Lac (Public))
Be involved. Be someone's cure. Be The Match.
We all have the power to heal, the power to help. You can demonstrate your commitment to making a difference in the world. It could be the most rewarding thing you'll ever do.
Every day, thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases hope for a bone marrow donor who can make their transplant possible. Seventy percent of patients, or about 10,000 patients a year, do not have a matching donor in their family. They turn to the Be the Match Registry for someone who can give them hope for a cure.
If you are 18-44 years old, patients need you. Please consider joining the registry. Doctors request younger donors 90% of the time. You provide the best change for transplant success. Patients need diverse registry members who:
-Are willing to donate to any patient in need.
-Meet the health guidelines.
-Agree to keep contact information current so we can find you quickly if you are a match for the patient.
(if you are ages 45-60, you may join online with a $100 tax-deductible contribution.)
There are other ways to contribute to Be The Match if you are unable to join the registry. Be The Match is non-profit and operates the Be The Match Registry of potential marrow donors and cord blood units. To grow the registry, they need financial support. Please consider giving a contribution. It costs about $100 to add each potential donor to the registry. The more registry members, the greater the likelihood patients with leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell anemia or other blood diseases will find a marrow match. Your contribution could be someone's cure.
